Gamecamp Success

This summer it was time again. At Hola Folk High School, 16 young people between the ages of 16 and 29 gathered – some straight out of high school, others after a longer time without employment or studies. For some, it was their first time living away from home. Two months later, 14 of the participants have completed the entire program. All of them are now moving on to studies or other activities, and nine will continue at upper secondary level or on the general course at the folk high school.

More than game development

Games are the engine – but Game Camp is about so much more. Our program is designed to create engagement, learning, and personal growth.

Over eight weeks, participants get to try things such as:

  • Game development and pitch training – from idea and coding to graphics and presentation.
  • Hot Skills – our tool that makes strengths visible in a fun and concrete way.
  • Routines and responsibility – building structure in everyday life.
  • Social development and networking – finding friends and creating supportive relationships.
  • Study and career guidance – each participant receives a plan for their next steps.

Results that make a difference

A full 100% move on to studies or other activities and 93% give top ratings to this year’s labor market initiative. And what matters most is seen in everyday life: the longing, the curiosity, the laughter, the friendships, and the pride when succeeding with something you might not have thought possible.

A model that works – everywhere

Game Camp proves that there are solutions to the growing exclusion and long-term unemployment among young people. With the right collaborations, a Summer or Winter Camp can be arranged anywhere in the country – both as a municipal initiative and as a folk high school course.

Quotes from participants

“Six years ago, I didn’t know where I was headed in life. Then a friend persuaded me to join the Summer Camp at Hola – and it became the best decision I’ve ever made. There I grew as a person, found myself again, and got the motivation to continue studying.”

“This is perfect for anyone who wants to try game development, learn to collaborate, and grow as a person at the same time. Many describe their time here as one of the most transformative periods in their lives.”

“After school my flame was gone – but not anymore. Summer Camp reignited the spark for me.”

“I was afraid I wouldn’t fit in. But already the first week I felt that here, I can be myself.”
